Four route shapes cover almost every Alleppey cruise. The circular canal loop (Alappuzha's west side) is the short-format classic — village frontage and paddy edges within a few hours of town. The Punnamada lake front is the big-water run: open sky, the race course, the postcard sunset. The Kuttanad village channels (Kainakary, Nedumudy, Champakulam) are the overnight favourite — paddy-level canals that go silent after dark. Pick by trip shape: one night favors canals or lake front; two nights earn the deep village loop; couples combining resorts take the crossing. Captains hold the final call — water levels, weather and local instructions shape the day's actual path, and that's a feature of working backwaters, not a downgrade.
